At 2:30 pm on April 13th, an academic lecture entitled “Translation’s Role in the Construction and Promotion of National Image” was held on Yanta Campus of Shaanxi Normal University. The lecture was given by Prof. Wang Ning, member of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University, Changjiang Scholar of Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of Tsinghua University, member of the Evaluation Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, dean of Institute of Humanities and Arts, and Chair Professor of Zhiyuan. Professor Wang Qilong, dean of School of Foreign Languages of Shaanxi Normal University, chaired the lecture. Teaching staff and students of the School attended the lecture.
Prof. Wang Qilong first of all expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Wang Ning. The lecture centered on how to build China’s image and tell its story in a well-rounded way in the midst of globalization. During the lecture, Professor Wang Ning mainly elaborated three parts: the promotion of China’s national image; the critical thinking of “Oriental Studies” and “Sinology” , and the evolution of the Chinese image in the eyes of the western countries. In the lecturer also analyzed were the reconstruction of China’s image, the communication and reshape of China's national image from the perspective of symbols, research made in the western world on Oriental Studies and Sinology, and the evolution of China's image in the western world illustrated with cases of New Confucianism, China's success of hosting the Olympic Games and the World Expo.
In the Q-A section, Professor Wang Ning exchanged ideas with teachers and students on the topic. His politeness and kindness won him thunderous applause.
