School of International Studies Held 2020 Postgraduate Opening Ceremony


At 4 p.m. September 17, 2020 Postgraduate Opening Ceremony of School of International Studies was held in Xuesi Hall, Chongyu Building, Yanta Campus. Presenters included Wang Qilong, Dean of School of International Studies; Ma Zhengping, Secretary of CPC Sub-branch Committee; Liu Quanguo and Sun Jian, vice deans of School of International Studies; Lu Yan, Deputy Secretary of CPC Sub-branch Committee, all postgraduate tutors, postgraduate teaching secretaries Jiang Jie and Li Li, postgraduate counselor Dong Jie, and all 2020 postgraduate students.

Prof. Wang Qilong, Dean of School of International Studies, gave a speech first. On behalf of all faculty members, Prof. Wang extended his warm welcome to 171 master's and doctoral students admitted this year. He expressed four expectations for all students: to love the country and stay true to original aspiration, to respect the teachers and treat others sincerely, to respect academic research and love what they are learning, and to keep physical exercise to maintain good health. Prof. Wang hoped students could aim high, study hard, and make further academic progress.

Prof. Liu Quanguo elaborated on the school's philosophy of cultivation and education of postgraduates and also instructed students in how to behave, deal with matters, and pursue knowledge. He hoped that all students could shoulder their responsibilities, make the best use of their time, and devote themselves to research. Prof. Liu also gave a brief introduction to all postgraduate tutors and their respective research interests.

Jiang Jie, teaching secretary of postgraduates, introduced the training syllabus, course selection and criteria of assessing scientific research results. She also specified requirements of course learning, tutorial guidance, thesis proposal, and thesis defense. Besides, she suggested students take academic study seriously and wished them excellent performances.

Lastly, Mr. Ma Zhengping made concluding remarks. He first thanked all teachers for attending the ceremony and then suggested that they adapt themselves to postgraduate educational reform. He expected all students to respect teachers and follow their instructions, study hard, observe academic norms, and behave with integrity, stay optimistic and seek all-round progress.

The 2020 Opening Ceremony ended with a round of loud applause.
